The arguments of SCSI vs. IDE ATA 100 are like a religion, similar to Windows vs. *nix.
The dual processor, and all that RAM will out perform your network connection by a large margin. Therefore the drive(s) will have redundant capacity and ability. As for performance - there will not be a noticeable difference. IDE is a LOT less expensive. You can build a RAID5 on IDE drives for about the cost of a single SCSI ULTRA drive. In a raid set up, drives are hot swappable and will rebuild the data in the event of a drive failure. The Platters, bearings, drive motors, and heads are the same materials in either, therefore I would not consider one drive more reliable than the other. My own experience with IDE drives is that they will either fail within 30 days or so or last as long as 5 years. There are, of course server owners with SCSI arrays, and server owners with IDE arrays. Each can be expected to swear by their own setup. I have worked with both and have never seen one type have a higher failure rate over the other. My own web server (purchased on ebay for $800.) is an IBM Intellistation dual processor XEON box. It has both SCSI and IDE support on the motherboard., and serves my purposes well with both types installed and in use. I have never seen over 10% CPU utilization running a number of web sites, a mail server, list-serv, and a database on the same box.
