Well... When Macromedia announced that Spectra 1.5 would be the last
feature additive release of the Spectra product they stated that:

"Macromedia's goal is to make dynamic content technology
like the contentobject API pervasive, approachable, and cost
effective for our developers. To help us better achieve this,
we plan to incorporate key components of Spectra technology -
a Java-based version of the COAPI architecture and other
services directly related to dynamic content - into the
   application server..."

see:

for the complete text.

What emerged from conversations on the Spectra-Talk list and other
communications was the idea that Macromedia would be rolling the
"COAPI" into the core CF product for release with CF 6. Of course
the next question that emerged was "where does the COAPI begin and
end?" Up until recently the answer seemed to be "well we haven't
really figured that out." Not too long ago Ben Elmore (the Macromedia
Spectra Product Evangelist) published an article entitled "What Is the
Macromedia Spectra COAPI?" so I get the feeling they are figuring it out...

If you want to read that article look at:

This obviously impacts what we are trying to do but hey: I'd rather take a
whack at our own tool and see what happens... It might just be that we'll
deliver a superior product.

CF6 will have a CMS system built in? How do you find out about CF6 and the
future of ColdFusion? Also, my 2 cents on the db. I would say build it
focussing on one db and let CF take care of any others in the future. Also
for selfish reasons, I would like to learn more about PostgresSQL, so that
one gets my vote.

Yep , I agree it has to work on all DB types - not just a free one. This
throws a lot into the mix, do we aim for simply one DB to begin with or drag
the whole project out in its life aiming for the global market :-) bearing
in mind the content management which CF6 will have.
