I'm an avid comic book buyer, and from chatting with my comics store in the past, they used to have this barcode-scanning application that would identify the comic book and the purchaser and sum up the purchase to be logged in a database. This would not be hard at all. However, they had to download information about the comics books themselves from an expensive database because with 50-100 titles coming in each week, it's just not feasible to do all the data entry yourself....
