Hi, Thanks for the responses which give me other options for optimising.
I found a program called Net Meter http://www.hootech.com/NetMeter/ which monitors the net connection. It has a stopwatch function and report. Click Start, then browse the page in question then click Stop when the page has loaded. It tells you the total bytes downloaded and the download rate. The total bytes was what I was after.
