The 12 year old puppy is doing okay. He's having good days and bad days. It's a 
long recovery (3+ weeks) so early days yet, but he appears to be adjusting 
well.

(And for those reading and thinking WTF, I had to amputate my dogs leg. Don't 
worry it wasn't a DIY job, hehe)
