Load up with your favourite mind altering substance and start puffing away. The Nirvana you seek is within you......... (but you have got buckleys chance of this working across multiple different network types) I have done this before in a Windows network (browser independent) by using nbtstat to obtain details about the user from their IP address. Basically CF ran NBTSTAT and passed over the IP address from the CGI variables (cant remember which one now - easy enough to work out by dumping CGI). It then got the text back and parsed the results (each NBTSTAT entry has a reasonably predictable format with record types and data - just need to work it out). That provided a USERNAME that I could then use to authenticate against. Because it is at the network level you can't really fudge it and it is always consistent when they log in at different machines. The downside of it is that you need to have an environment that is consistent. It also worked for Macs on the network (as long as they had Netbios enabled). As far as the retinal scan is concerned........ I think DNA matching through live blood analysis by insertion of a finger into a unit dedicated for the task that pricks their finger every time they log in will be a stark reminder of how much better it is to just enter their user name and password.
