Thanks Gary .. in fact it was you that gave me the clue I needed.  I was
sure I had closed it and that was the first thing I thought of.  But it
turns out just clicking the close box doesn't shut the app down. You have to
file > quit with this app.  Click the close box and it stays present, rather
like windows messenger does.  It was only when I opened the task manager
with Ctrl>alt>delete that I saw it there and realised it hadn't closed at
all.

We learn something new all the time.

I have to say I am very impressed with this breeze thing.   Considering our
presentation was hosted in the USA, so all that content was making a two-way
trip across the Pacific it was pretty fast don't you all think?

Sound apps can be a real mongrel.

I twigged to it when you said that you used your setup for Broadcasting 
and thought......  . o O (Maybe he has a sound app that has hijacked the 
sound card)
