Will be interesting to see if and how the licensing changes, especially with the new server products being released. I remember the whoha when MM took over Allaire and the way the partner programs changed. Will be interesting to see how much of it they will honour if the merger comes through. Prime example i see would be the product subscriptions. I am about to but CF7 ENT for my hosting business and am now in 2 minds if i really want to. I am sure development will continue, but my concern is whether to buy the subscriptions or not. Thats 2yrs of upgrades that Adobe will have to commit to, other wise its over 2k down the tube.
Will also be interesting to see if the exchange programs comtinue, and on another level if the certification programs will continue. In an industry like this, i really believe that share holders mean squat. I mean, seriously. I understand the finincial input buy share holders, but if we as developers and users of the products don't like what is happening, then we will stop using the software, no doubt. I know I will. In the end we are the ones that put worth into a product by using it. As a business decision to use the products or not, in some ways we wont have a chioce with it come to the tools side of things, but at the same time we can code in note pad if we really have to. But what we use to design our applications has no bearing on what we use to deploy them. I personally think its a selfish act on behalf of MM to go through with this. We developers have been an intrigate part of the developemt of these products and tools through our open feedback and support in developing applications using these products, and to see them die off in a merger, quite frankly is a kick in the teeth, especially when they are as strong as they are in their own space.
