You've been reading the php manual haven't you.. The story as I know it is the php guys refused to endorse Apache 2 because of something or other - trivial, little thing - apache got angry, php wouldn't budge - apache and php went their seperate ways http://drbacchus.com/wordpress/index.php?p=844 I don't use it in production, yet.
