1. Can you make the query into a stored procedure?

2. Add more parameters to return less data?

3. Modify the query to make it work faster?

4. Schedule the page (to remove browser time out problems)? Create the
file daily (at midnight say), and have the user pick it up if they want
it?

I have a query that accesses a very slow database. Most of the time
it
times out. One way I was thinking of getting around this way to create
a CF
page that would run the query, export it to a file and them email the
file
to the user. This works some of the time.

Is this the best method of doing it. Optimising the database or
speeding it
up are not an option.
