You could create a boolean for each product name that is set to true the first time it is found. Then you only had the TM or R when the boolean for the respective product is false.

well, in the infinite wisdom of Senior MarComm managers I have been assigned the following tasks:

"write code that automatically highlights (with bold/italic formatting) all of our product names"

easy enough sez I, so I modified a UDF I found at cflib.org, no problems...

now, sez they, "add an ™ or ® depending on product line."

again, easy enough. Transfered it all to cfc on our external site, works like a charm.

now here comes the tricky part...

sez they, "bold/italic or bold by product line, ™ and ® only on the first instance of a product in body copy;

so:

<body copy start>
1st instance e-terraassetmanager(tm)
2nd instance e-terraassetmanager -- no (tm)
1st instance e-terramarketmanager(tm)
1st instance BiTRONICS(r)
2nd instance BiTRONICS -- no (r)

and so on..."

Is this possible? If so, how? do I need to check for the first instance of each productname?
