Here is my call on it (although I have not tried to see if this makes a
difference or not)......

In a <CFCOMPONENT> you can use a mechanism to have a (or several) member
variable of the object map to a method.......

<CFSET this.myFunc = theRealFunctionName> (where theRealFunctionName is a 
<CFFUNCTION>)

In the method itself, you could use displayName="myFunc".

I have used this approach (not the displayName - but the assignment
feature - to help provide a way to be able to call base class methods in
descendants but still have "overrides" in the descended classes.

Having said that - the mechanism I described above is not sanctioned in
any of the doco I have read - so I am still stumped as to exactly what the
displayName attribute is for.
