afaik, the "this" scope is the "public" interface to the element, so
it'd deny any requests going through it.
why not just use:
<cffunction name="mainmethod" output="false" returntype="string"
access="public">
<cfset var ret = privateMethod()>
<cfreturn ret />
</cffunction>
