No wonder I can't find an example then! Sheesh!
The site is running on Apache. Here's what I got back from the host
admin when I requested them to add my specific error page.
"We have added the error document as requested to the apache container
file. Please be advised that anyone attempting to access a .cfm file
that doesn't exist will go to a CF standard error page still, unless you
define a CFERROR tag in your application.cfm file."
...so, that's what I've been searching for...
