I'm with Sam on this - where possible you should aim to have a daily build. If the daily build is broken - it gets fixed asap.

Umm the contractors working offsite, the team in India, the team in our other offices working on various parts of the application... we sometimes have projects with developers working in Australia, India and the UK - breaking everyone's local sandbox because they have just updated - not only harms productivity it costs money when you add up the wasted man hours.
