"Believe it or not, I strongly believe coldfusion needs to be more
typecast.. And grow up to be more of a great language. it would be so damn
nice... "
This betrays for whom the language really exists, and what its strengths
are.
If you want strong typing, and the stability that comes from a compiled
language, then {nameYourFavoriteStronglyTypedLanguageHere} is your choice.
Otherwise, let ColdFusion grow in those areas where the energy spent will
bring greater returns to the community than method overloading and the like.
I for one can list about a dozen features I'd rather see Adobe spend their
time on, rather than spinning their wheels and introducing bugs trying to
make CF look and act more like {nameYourFavoriteStronglyTypedLanguageHere}.
And not only would such features benefit the developers, but the customers
and the company as a whole, by making CF "the best choice overall" for web
applications.
My 2c.
