I've been playing with different frameworks for a while now. I have to say I don't like dojo too much, been digging on jQuery (http://jquery.com/) and Mootools (http://mootools.net/) lately (with brief flirtations with Scriptaculous http://script.aculo.us/).
Prototype is nice, but you will build a lot of functionality on top of it that are in other frameworks. I've played a bit with YUI, but the library is freakin' huge (http://ajaxian.com/archives/yui-setting-the-record-on-library-file-size)! Anyway, I like jQuery and Mootools because there are a lot of plugins and examples out there.
