You could run a loop, after the CFLDAP tag, that checks for the account. If the loop iterates for so many seconds, yet the account still does not exist, then you can abort the rest of the page.
In this case, I think I would separate the two processes and just have the CFMAIL tag run in a scheduled task that first checks the existence of the account.
