I shall not shoot :) but Chandler is not an island, so FWIW I should like to
encourage:

* greatest interoperability with other standards-based
applications/services; standards including but not limited to iCalendar and
CalDAV.

When I last considered iCalendar subscription in Microsoft Office Outlook
2007, and/or Windows Calendar in Windows Vista, one or the other behaved
peculiarly (at least, with our old SchoolTool server).

Google Calendar support for CalDAV is recently official. However, they
explicitly do not support To Do Items in Apple iCal 3 (and iCal responds
very gracefully to this limitation).

IMHO a significant obstacle is user education.

<http://code.google.com/p/calaboration/issues/list?can=1> includes some
classic examples of users:

a) not understanding the limitations of a tool that has a specific, limited
purpose

b) reporting many issues that are invalid (not related to Calaboration)

c) not realising (maybe, not being forewarned) that concurrent or parallel
use of two or more different approaches to synchronisation can be a recipe
for disaster.

<http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/SyncServices/Articles/SyncOverview.html>
presentation of the 'Truth Database' in Apple Sync Services is fairly easy
to understand; if we strip away the developer-oriented texts then Figure 1
alone could help to re-educate users that things rarely sync 'with each
other' in the ways that they imagine.

Myth: iCal syncs with iPhone.

Reality (to the best of my knowledge): iCal uses Sync Engine to sync with
the Truth Database. iPhone uses Sync Engine to sync with the Truth Database.
And when multiple computers with or without MobileMe are added to the
equation for a single user, so there are additional issues to consider. Et
cetera.
