The opening subject here line is necessarily long, descriptive. As the topic progresses, please do expect forks/threads. With shorter subject lines :) I'll add detail in due course. In the meantime ... --- A Mac OS X perspective: the truth is good, understood, and very well synchronised in the Apple illustrations at <http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=8734533>. (A Google perspective of the same message: <http://www.diigo.com/04kf7>.) Chandler Desktop has another truth — sometimes a superset— that may be backed up locally in binary, .chex and repository formats. Chandler Hub has another truth, which may be spoilt by any number of client software applications and/or principal users. When the Hub lacks the truth, it's non-trivial to push the truth from Chandler Desktop in the proper direction to the Hub. (In this situation: beware of Hub overwriting what's good in Desktop.) Positive summary: * when all three truths are harmonious, all is good :) An issue: * when any one of the three truths requires correction, special attention may be required. So. How to ease this special attention? Considering Apple's illustrations, it will be good to have comparable Chandler Project illustrations that distinguish: a) Chandler Desktop repository and collections b) Chandler Hub relational database, principal users, collections etc. † c) the Truth Database in Mac OS X d) nearest equivalent to Truth Database for users of Microsoft Windows e) nearest equivalent to Truth Database for users of Linux. Expanding the picture a little: somewhere around (c) we have optional MobileMe client of Sync Engine; somewhere around (d) we have optional Microsoft Exchange; and so on.
