As a followup to the recent outage(s) at our (free) colocation facility ISC, I discussed with their main guy how to best handle proactive notification on facility issues without me necessarily jumping on the phone every time there's an issue for fear it'll turn into a hour-long outage.
We resolved that monitoring their status page at http://status.isc.org/ would be the best way, because they are getting good about keeping that up to date. I put together a script on my own servers (not at ISC) to email me diffs to the status.isc.org page when they happen. That page is also hosted around the world, so it's basically going to always be available regardless of what's happening in Redwood City or the Bay Area (massive fiber cuts, ahem). This should really help to minimize total downtime, since much of the last outage was just miscommunication. BTW, ISC is expecting a couple of sub-minute outages this morning between 7 and 8 am Pacific. I know this from my little diff script now, but in general, I'll only inform people on larger issues :) (I'm also still working on getting DNS secondaries set up offsite; I'm going with xname.org if I can get it to work.) -- Jared _______________________________________________ [email protected] mailing list unsubscribe here: http://lists.osafoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/chandler-users Chandler wiki: http://chandlerproject.org/wikihome
