Just an update on our last get-together... we've loaded OpenWRT (http://openwrt.org) on all the Broadway access points. We played with them a while trying to get WDS working, but to no avail :( We tried using the "lazy" WDS that is supposed to automatically associate with other APs within range. Next I think I'll try manually setting the MAC addresses and see if that works (that's what we did with WDS on the old Freeman firmware.) If you'd like to experiment with this on your own, you'll need a couple WRT54Gs and the firmware from http://openwrt.org . Post to the list if you have trouble getting the firmware installed.
Also, I'll be playing a bit with the Google Maps API to setup an interface to plug in the longitude/latitude of the access points for automatically mapping them (my test is here: map.columbusfreenet.org) If you'd like to get involved with that, check out http://mapki.com or http://www.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/) Also, some bad news... it seems that Linksys has changed version 5 of the WRT54G to run vxworks instead of the Linux software (as well as cutting the RAM in half.) This mean no after-market firmware, at least on that version. I've heard there's a version "L" that still includes it, but you can no longer by any off-the-shelf wrt and be guarranteed that you can load new firmware on it. That really sucks. OpenWRT does, however, run on a lot of other hardware: http://wiki.openwrt.org/TableOfHardware
