As far as learning PHP functions and their arguments, the search 
function at php.net is really great and the user comments give you great 
examples of how functions should be used or alternatives that may be 
used.  For problems with my SQL I usually just google the error 
message.  For development I prefer Eclipse IDE <http://www.eclipse.org/> 
with the PHP plugin.  I've been working with php and mysql for over a 
year now and can't really recall where i picked up the general syntax, 
but if you have any questions i'd be glad to help.
