Once GSoC projects are accepted, we should definitely to post to
the mailing list to introduce the students and the projects but it
sounds like we failed to do so this year, sorry about that.

    I only learned of the details of one of this round's projects quite late, 
    even thought the student (in question) is just down the road from us. As 
    it transpired, those details somewhat overlapped with one of our own R+D 
    projects on which my small team are working. Our input (for what it is 
    worth), was provided only the last weeks of the GSoc project and was hence 
    of limited benefit. Maybe if I had provided that input beforehand, it 
    might have been more useful. That is all I was saying. Nothing insightful.
