I’ve been in the mood for Victorian and Edwardian horror recently. I
read Elizabeth Braddon’s “A Cold Embrace”, which I thought was quite a
good ghost story. Then a couple of stories by de Maupassant – “Was It a
Dream?” (which I thought was a very cynical but rather clever
little story) and “The Hand” (not as good, but still quite decent
story). I followed that up with some stories by Munro, H. H. ("Saki") –
I liked “The Open Window” (somewhat cruel but amusing), I loved “The
Music on the Hill”, and I really loved “Sredni Vashtar”.

I liked Saki’s stories enough to want to track down some more - does
anyone have any recommendations? And I wouldn’t mind trying more of
Elizabeth Braddon’s stuff as well.
