Raul,

I don't see the similarity:  Mathematica /. is a pattern matching operation 
(using regexps), while, as you know better than I, /. is J is oblique -- 
applying or selecting array elements along an oblique axis.

Other than the built-in mapping of functions across vectors and arrays, how are 
they similar?
