[Jchat] J "Data Frame" Techniques

Hello All,
I work in an industry where SAS is the gold standard for analysis, with R
making inroads with the statisticians. I would like to use J, but I'm
struggling to see how to use it with tables of mixed data - some columns
text, others dates/times or numerics.
Are there any guides or documents that give guidance for this?
