John,

I agree completely that youtube and sites like the Kahn Academy have created
good learning platforms. The ability to see and hear as something is explained
can smooth out very steep learning curves.

The advantage that the video viewer platform is, that like J labs, it can be
paused and moved to the side to let viewers work out problems in the J
environment. This may not show in the video as well as I had hoped (it is a
linear video), but when the addon arrives and you are able to interact with the
video I think you will see the difference.

The other area I have just begun to explore is that the J labs allow the
construction of interactive learning objects that can be triggered at
appropriate sections of the lab using the PREPARE block. I have seen learning
objects that allow interactions in several web instructional platforms and
having used them, I am amazed at how quickly that I can understand concepts
when I am in control of a few appropriate sliders. Like the video content for
the video viewer, these may not be the easiest things to construct, but they
are a tool that can really move the learning curve along. I'll let you know
when the addon is up and running.

Fingers crossed that it is not too hard a process to make it available across
platforms, although my experience with video would indicate that there may be
some work to be done.

Cheers, bob
