An article in today's London Times reports that five or so Times staff
managed to solve the challenge.  Not just any old staff,  though, but
the brainy types compiling and/or editing the Times Crossword,  the
Listener Crossword and so on.

I gather a lot of lateral thinking is called for.  GCHQ are said to use this
sort of thing to help them recruit the brightest talent for decoding,
decrypting and all that stuff.
