Raul, I don't know that I have heard this before but I am pretty confident that there is no reason they couldn't be implemented in android. I know that there was no effort to avoid them nor was it expected that they would be problematic. It sounds like a simple oversight in the initial port that was never addressed. Or raised IIRC.
Perhaps if we set up a wiki page to enumerate these android-specific shortcomings, it might kick off an effort to address them.
