Yesterday my mom recieved a CDR/RW drive as a gift. :) YAY!!! :) But this
morning my connection to COX cable suddenly stoped working. :( At the time the
service stopped letting me get data from outside IPs, I was testing my shields.
I was curious as to what ports were being blocked by COX and which weren't, so
I ran GRC's port scanner on my machine with my firewall turned off. But just
as I was doing it, the browser suddenly gave me a DNS error. I tried multiple
times to get to various web sites, all were dead. I tried PING, it resolved
host names to IPs just fine, but it couldn't connect to any IPs. GRRR. Also,
freenet was running at the time, in the background. There wasn't much
activity. The only thing that was really different at all was that I changed
the Port for the Freenet Proxy program from 8888 to port 21. This might have
triggered some kind of response from COX, I don't know.

I don't understand why COX doesn't want thier users running Server software of
any kind. Or so they say in their Policy files. I mean, every time I run mIRC
I'm running a "server" application, because the application has open ports and
is activly listening to requests. Same thing with the Weather Bug, it is
always listening for data. Or Winamp, when I want to listing to online radio,
it acts like a server. As long as I am staying within the bandwidth limits set
by COX, what the heck is thier problem? Why can't I have a relatively slow and
small server application serving up content or allowing file transfers? It
doesn't make sense.
