In contrast to the puzzles I just posted, I found the following entertaining.  
It's obvious where and how to start,  but requires
both reasoning and a little creativity.  Also, the answer is verifiable, and 
can be proved unique with a short J program that does
an exhaustive search.

Same rules as the other puzzles:  if you post a solution, put "spoiler" in the 
subject line (remove the word if you're replying to
such a post, and your reply doesn't contain the solution).  Do not post 
solutions if you already knew them (i.e. had encountered
the puzzle somewhere before).

In the following formulae each letter represents a distinct digit:
        
         ONE     FOUR
            *  4     +ONE
            ----     ----
        FOUR     FIVE

Given that each sum is numerically correct, what are the respective values of 
E, R, O, F, N, U, V and I?  Give (briefly) your
chain of reasoning or the key insights in that chain.
