When I remove --enable-static --enable-shared=no I get the error I was
reporting at the beginning:

(the error occurs in the cget directory)

mips-linux-uclibc-gcc -g -O2 -o .libs/cget main.o
proxy.o ../cherokee/.libs/libcherokee-client.so -ldl

mips-linux-uclibc/bin/ld:
warning: libcherokee-base.so.0, needed
by ../cherokee/.libs/libcherokee-client.so, not found (try using -rpath
or -rpath-link)

so I did this by hand (added ../cherokee/.libs/libcherokee-base.so):

mips-linux-uclibc-gcc -g -O2 -o .libs/cget main.o
proxy.o ../cherokee/.libs/libcherokee-client.so
../cherokee/.libs/libcherokee-base.so
-ldl

which is equivalent to changing

/bin/sh ../libtool --tag=CC --mode=link mips-linux-uclibc-gcc -g -O2 -o
cget main.o proxy.o ../cherokee/libcherokee-client.la -ldl

into

/bin/sh ../libtool --tag=CC --mode=link mips-linux-uclibc-gcc -g -O2 -o
cget main.o
proxy.o ../cherokee/libcherokee-client.la ../cherokee/libcherokee-base.la
-ldl

and it compiles fine.

It seems to be even bigger with those configure options though:

10040 bytes (cherokee) + 141616 bytes (libcherokee-server) +
209516 bytes (libcherokee-base) = 361172 bytes

which is bigger than 310508 bytes when compiled statically :(
