It is different internally, not visually, and the change only applies if there is no other PHP rule configured already. The wizard tries to find and configure a php-fpm binary. Only if it fails will it fall back to the regular php binaries.
This applies only to new php-fpm, not the patch for php5.2x branch. Please try it out and report any problems, since I'm the only one that has tested this feature up until now AFAICT.
