So far i have had very good performance with cherokee in a vserver at blumile <http://bit.ly/dqudgu> I have 4 deploys with 1 process each, low access and postgres database running with 1gb ram. I received no complains so far from the project owners, processor usage was low all the time and memory usage is really low. I believe this cenario won't change for the next 10 deploys, at least.
Maybe you should start worrying about performance *IF* the problem shows up. You see, evil early optimizations are considered bad. In case you're doing django in your vps, try changing the deploy method to uWSGI. That might help.
