ok I have started fresh in a new VM... no custom locations but SSL still broken

The operating system reported '/usr/local/cherokee/lib/cherokee/libplugin_libssl.so: undefined symbol: SSL_set_SSL_CTX' while trying to load '/usr/local/cherokee/lib/cherokee/libplugin_libssl.so'.

[root@cherokee ~]# rpm -aq | grep openssl
openssl-devel-0.9.8e-12.el5_5.7
openssl-0.9.8e-12.el5_5.7
[root@cherokee ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS release 5.5 (Final)

is this a bug? or I'm only one broken here? XD

Looks like it could not load the libssl library. Have you tried to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH pointing to your custom OpenSSL location?
