I think you guys did something really wrong... It should run pretty fine. Does that box have ipv6 net ? Those "fixes" from that blog seems for me 'quite bad'.
Can you please spawn the backend by hand ? And then try to run admin (it should detect working backend and connect to it). Can you also run cherokee-admin -x ? Also maybe try to use unix socket.
