I had a similar problem, but in my case it was the fuel pump.  I put a clear
fuel filter in to see what it was doing and after the car had been running
for about 1/2 hour, you could see there was hardly any fuel going through
the clear filter (after the pump).  As long as you just idled, it would stay
running but as soon as you hit the gas it would die.  I'd have to let the
car cool off for about 1/2 hour to an hour and then go again, and it would
just keep doin this.  I went through this with about 4 different pumps and
the one I have now is working properly.
