[Chevelle-List] engine decoding

Hi all,
       A friend of mine with a 70 1/2 Camaro asked if I had anyway to help decode his engine and trans numbers. On the head is stamped 3927186
                                                                              K308
                                       On the trans is stamped 5AD-J
                                                                            338999
      I tried looking on the net and couldnt find any decent pages to help decode, figured with the wealth of knowledge on this list someone would know :)
