Mustang Mach I versus new Chevy Products ?
I'm all for the new GTO. As you already
know, it's an imported Holden (GM's Australian brand) rebadged as a
Pontiac. I've been keeping an eye on the Holden cars for the past few
years, wishing that GM would wise up and bring them to America. They've
got some cars that people here would love to have, but they just haven't
offered them here. Take for instance the HSV (Holden Special Vehicles)
ClubSport R8 (check out the website at www.hsv.com.au). It's an awesome family
car (did you hear that? -- the wife will dig it!!!) with rear wheel
drive, an LS-1, and a 6-speed manual transmission. You can keep the
minivan, I'll take one of these!
From what I've heard, GM is planning to use the
GTO as somewhat of a test. If the response is good the GTO, they'll
likely follow up by bringing other Holden vehicles over -- we can only
hope. Also, from a quality standpoint, Holden is the rated to be one of
GM's best brands (I read that recently in one of my automotive engineering
magazines).
Anyway, there's my 2 cents...

i personally dont like the idea of the gto
coming out again. i didnt like it when the malibu came out-particulary
cause its a 4 door 4 banger, so at least this GTO will have a V8 with 300+
HP. :)

GM is bringing back the GTO next year. Its a 5.7
liter V8, imported from Australia. The Impala SS is rumored
to return, but I'd bet that its with a super/turbo charged V6.
Probably too expensive to retro fit a V8 in the current chassis. For
Sure - They are bringing back a Silverado SS next fall, but i don't have
a clue as to power. Probably LS1 camaro/fbird variation. After all
they wont have any Z28s to put the LS1 into. rick ----------

Yo: I am a chevy guy and have 3 classic
chevys. But, what is going on with Chevy and Muscle cars ? I just
read that Ford is coming out this year with a new retro Ford Mustang
Mach I with 300 Horsepower. This follows the Ford Mustang Bullitt, and
the Ford Thunderbird. Chevy discontinued the Camaro. The GTO may come
back. So, anyone know what is Chevy doing to compete with Ford who
appears to be uping the ante ? Thanks, Big Ken Robert

Hey Rob, Thanks for your input. I like the goin' fishin' analogy.
Thanks for the tip on jetting. The Holley manual for that carb
suggests jetting down 1 step for every 2000 ft. but it sounds like
that might not be the way to go. If I do try that and get a stumble
I'll know what's going on. Looks like I just need to play. Wish I was
rich, the chassis dyno I mentioned in earlier posts can be rented for
$600 per day. That would be a great way to quantify any changes
besides seat of the pants. Thanks again, Bob Belz 71
