I wouldn't heat the axle tube to remove it.    You can use a slide hammer to pull it out, or get a long rod (like a broom handle), insert it into the opposite axle tube, and set it up against the bearing on the side you want to remove from.  Then smack it with a big hammer a few times.  it'll come right out. The bearings on the carrier must be pressed off/on.
