I wouldn't heat the axle tube to remove it.    You can use a slide hammer to pull it out, or get a long rod (like a broom handle), insert it into the opposite axle tube, and set it up against the bearing on the side you want to remove from.  Then smack it with a big hammer a few times.  it'll come right out.

The bearings on the carrier must be pressed off/on.

Be wary of the T5, they're known for breaking.  TTC only rates them for V6 applications.

good luck,

Also I would like to know, Can you just put a SS Grille on a malibu?  or does there need to be some mods?  thanks.  This 1968 Chevelle SS clone - the only thing wrong is that it has a malibu grille.

ok, heres the story.  The motor came out of a 1966 Chevelle SS, as far as I know.  it is supposely the 375 hp version.  We just visited him today (I said we were going to yesterday, but he had plans) and we looked at the car, he put it up on the lift, and it had paint chips all under it.  I concluded that it was 8 - 9 grand.  But didn't say nothing, except to my dad, and he agreed with me (remember, the guy is asking 11,500).  We took it out for a ride, and it felt very smooth, he said it has gas shocks, and I forget what company it was.  There is a guy coming from ohio to look at it.  my dad offered him 8500, and Shawn (the chevelle owner) said that after this guy from ohio, if he does not buy it, he will look to us.  also, we found out from inside sources that Sean needs money BAD - I mean BAD!  So I have a feeling that if the ohio guy doesn't buy it, we will.  This car will be my daily driver.  :-)  Sorry, My mom's digital camera is at her work, and she just recently had surgery, so it will not be 2 weeks until we get pictures - that is, if we get the car.  Also, If you didn't know, this is a malibu converted to a SS.  Also, the tranny is a TH400R.  How good of a transmission are they?  I'll keep you updated on the car.  :-)                                                                                Chad

 Chad :
tell us what motor it is? Also why don't you take some pictures of this "68 chevelle" that you found. I'm sure most of the list would like to see it.
