Are you sure they were shaved? Maybe the entire quarter panels were replaced. The replacement panels do not come w/ the marker light holes cut out.
Note that the original panel has the hole in: http://johnnasta.com/elcamino/pages/MVC-633S.htm and the replacement panel does not in: http://johnnasta.com/elcamino/pages/MVC-637S.htm In my case, the hole will be cut in the new panel to match the original.
