No, no...I know you didn't mean the "K" implied the SS option...that's confirmed with the 138 VIN.  Just meant his was "probably" the letter Z instead of the second "7."  Probably some extra paint on the tag and bending over the fender and sometimes having to turn your head sideways makes it difficult sometimes. :*)

I use a couple of sources for information on trim tags and VINs.  One is the program available from TC (download for a price).  Another is my GM Parts & Accessory manual from 1971/72 that shows Chevelle parts from 64-71 (some 72).  The same manual (along with some others) is photocopied on the Detroit Iron CD I also have for '67s.  This manual breaks down the models in a reference chart showing the models and their id such as "13517" and it differentiates between the "Chevelle," the "Chevelle Deluxe," "Malibu," etc.  Probably where people use the saying that, "All Malibus are Chevelles, but not all Chevelles are Malibus."  Where a 67 4-door sedan Malibu has a different model (such as 13535) than a 67 4-door sedan Chevelle and/or Chevelle Deluxe with 13335.

I'd be happy to scan the 4 pages that show model ids for 64 to 71 and pass those along via email if you'd like.  Email me ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) off-line of course and I'll send them to you the same way

Dale I was not implying that the "K" signified that the car was an SS model. I was saying, however, that the letter was missing. What source are you using to id models and makes? If you want to email me off site I'm at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and we could talk more. Smitty

Me thinks he misread the "1383757."  My bet is it's probably the letter "Z" instead of the number "7" in the 7th character postion.  The "Z" simply means the car was assembled in Fremont and has nothing to do with it being a SS car.  The 138 VIN signifies the SS.

Larry the 7th digit should be an alphabetic letter of sorts. Mine is an SS and it reads # 138375K155424. notice the "K" id. ? Smitty in SC
