The starter just sits there and cooks now that the exhaust is a bit
closer to the starter. (I guess)

I find this whole issue fascinating actually-  how
does the heat actually destroy the starter, when it
does nothing but sit there?  Does it damage the
solenoid?  Never thought heat would do that.
