Yes, that is normal operation. The "parking lights" turn off when the headlights are turned on.

Not a priority, but wondering the following on the front running lights operation. With the headlight switch pulled half way out rear tail lights, front running lights both illuminate. Pull headlight switch all the way out and headlights go on, rear tail lights stay on and front running lights go off - is this normal for the front running lights to go off when the headlights come on? Note: Turn signals work all around in any head light position.
