I ran a 2.5" Flowmaster catback system on my former 90 ZR-1. It dynoed at
422rwhp so that was probably close to 500 at the flywheel.
The guy I sold it to installed a 3" B&B Triflo on the car. Result? It picked
up 6hp but also gained a ton of unwanted resonance that took away a lot of
the enjoyment of driving the car. I'm not sure that was a good trade-off.
Getting back to your combo,is the exhaust system you plan to run comprised
of all-mandrel bends? If not, installing a 2.5" mandrel bent system will flow
as much as a non-mandrel 3". Just something to keep in mind. However,if you
do decide to run the bigger system, may I offer a suggestion? Run full
tailpipes, preferrably in 2.5". You will see a noticeable torque increase by
doing so.
