How well what cools,Dan? If you're referring to the Old Air system, everything I've seen or heard about them has been positive. My friend's 55 Chevy with Old Air will damn near frost the windows,,it gets that cold in the car. And,a 55 Chevy has a pretty large interior.
Regardless,I would not try to rebuild the factory air set-up,if it were my car. When I bought my 69,one of the reasons I purchased it was the fact it was a non-air car. However,it's your money and your car so do what you think is best for you.

Clint…while air movement helps, with the new Enviro friendly compressors…I wonder how well they cool? Or would it be better to refit the old system I have? I would have to buy everything under the hood, but from the firewall back..my system is intact….The only worry is a few talking about their old system not doing as well as the new. I sometimes wonder if their cooling and heating cores are stopped up with all the years of dirt. Also could the old fans been worn out. Sorry for the thousand questions…I will eventually face AC replacement.

Too many things to repair and not enough cash!(GRIN)

Matt, the Hurricane option is the same set-up my friend's 55 Chevy has in it. I think you will be very satisfied with that system. The blower motor on the Hurricane is around 900cfm. <grin>

Old Air is probably the way I'll go,too. They're just down the road from me in Fort Worth.(about 120 miles)

I went with Old Air (http://www.oldairproducts.com/shop/) based on recommendations from Clint and others on the Team Chevelle site.  Haven't installed it yet though, so I can't give my own opinion.  I bought their hurricane system with side hose outlets for a "clean" firewall look.

Another company that came recommended on Team Chevelle was Air-tique: http://www.air-tique.com/

Hope this helps.

It sounds like there are some issues with Vintage Air units out there on the List. I was just getting ready to order a unit for my Tempest. Is VA not what it's cracked up to be? Who makes a better unit? Herb is using a VA unit in his Elky and from what I'm aware of he has been pleased except for the cheezy plastic firewall fill panel. Give me some feedback, please.

I installed two VA units one in my 66 Elky & one in my 64 Elky.

& the blower blows a lot of air way more than my 66 Malibu with

factory air. The heat don't work worth a damn. I'm in Dallas TX.

So you know I need the AC. But this was 7 yrs ago I installed them.

If your VA blower don't put out a lot of air check the (cheesy)

plastic cage fan, both of mind destroyed themselves. They have

a "D" shaped hole that fits the "D" shaped motor shaft, what happens

is the thin plastic fan cracks & slips on the motor shaft.

When I ordered new ones I machined an aluminum spacer that reinforced

the fan top & bottom. No trouble since.
