Hello, hey the book i have on chevelles from 64 to 76 says that most anything was an option, heck you could have those SS BandAid stripes on the hood and decklid if you wanted, and i did read an area the book that said those round or rectangle gauges were an option. Ken D. 72 HeavyChevyChevelle

I have a 454 engine with an 8-71 blower on top! I'm just curious whether any
SS 72's had the wide speedometer? The ones I see all the time are the
circular ones.

in 72, nothing in the VIN ID's an SS. UNLESS the engine digit is a W
. W is for 454 and the only 72 chevelle to get the 454 was the SS.
More than likely its a clone.

I have a 1972 Chevelle I bought recently. The title says it's a SS.
But.......The speedometer is not the circular type I normally see on a 72
SS. It's the wide speedometer? What Vin number represents a SS?
