My Chevelle was bought with the purpose of being my daily driver. The only
time it was not my daily driver is when it was getting body work done and my
Corvette was the daily driver. I put in the 700R4 because I wanted better
gas mileage for the long trips, although I don't take them any more in the
Chevelle. The car was my ski trip car when I was single and we took it
(fully loaded with three guys, five pair of skis on the roof, and everything
else in the trunk) on trips from LA to Taos, Salt Lake City, Tahoe, Mammoth,
etc.

The Chevelle has seen a high of 24 MPG in sedate highway driving, and it can
pull 1G on the road race track. It may be a bit tightly sprung for some,
but I like it. The only reason I don't take it on long (ski) trips is
because with a wife and daughter along it makes sense to take the Blazer
that has A/C (helps when visiting Arizona in the summer) and 4wd (for those
ski trips).
