Mike,

This sort of application of the A-body chassis has pros and cons. I think I've become aware of all of them (but you never know!) after playing with this configuration for 25 years. I "inherited" the marriage of the A-body chassis and '32 PU back then and have since struggled with certain issues.

One that I am currently solving is the front fenders. I have concluded that it is impossible to mount '32 front fenders on an A-body frame, at least with anything less than a Master's level of metalworking skill. After running it all this time without front fenders, I am finally mounting motorcycle fenders. They are fiberglass (less unsprung weight) and from a kit car "The Diva". The bracketry is finished and they are currently at paint. I am eagerly awaiting their completion after all this time. I wonder if you will run into this same issue with your build?

On the other hand, parts determination and acquisition is easy, as everything from the frame down is either A-body or after-market for the A-body. With the vast offerings for this chassis, this aspect of the work is all positive.

Fred, Don't have anything to add to your post, but it is very interesting to
me that you used an A-body chassis for a street rod(32 Ford).
I am planning a build using a 65 Malibu chassis under a 57 Chev. pickup. I
know that wheelbase and tred is real close on the Malibu and the 57 pickup.
Any comments on fitment issues I will have to deal with would be
appreciated. I've been meaning to start a thread for input for awhile now.

Dan,

No problems. Only "complication" was deciding where I wanted to place
the reservoir (firewall), run the -8an lines (through the frame) and
which to use. I wound up using Russell pro race tubing for the low
pressure lines and had one custom made locally for the pump to box
line.

BTW, I don't think it makes any difference but FYI my car is a '68
Chevelle frame/chassis '32 Ford street rod.

So far it works fine and doesn't make any noise.

Good Luck!

Dan,

Try Summit, pn SUM-340105. This is a GM Type 2 polished aluminum pump
that uses a remote reservoir and hence takes very little room at the
pump. I just installed one on my '68/454 and it works and looks great.
I used a Zoops polished aluminum bracket and reservoir and the pump
mounts low on the driver side. If you are running a stock pump this
should work just fine.

I'm still trying to find someone or a company that sells an aluminum

or chrome Saginaw power steering pump for my 1972 Chevelle. The car

crank.
I have the AC mounted passenger side low. The alternator passenger
side
above. The old Saginaw pump is still in it's stock driver side
position.

March has a nice billet pump, but said the mounting brackets would not
work.
Flaming River said they had nothing that would fit!

Does anyone have any ideas! Is anyone running an 8-71 blower on a 454?
